Celebrating Teddy at Disney

Six-year-old Teddy celebrated his birthday in the most magical way imaginable, on his Dream trip to Disney and Give Kids the World Village. After years of treatment, this trip marked something far greater than a vacation. It was a celebration of joy, resilience, and turning the page to a new chapter.

Teddy’s family chose Disney because it fits him perfectly. He loves Toy Story, music, shows, and especially meeting characters. Being social and full of energy, the parks were the ideal place for him to light up.

The adventure began with a major milestone, his very first flight. Southwest Airlines made the experience unforgettable. Teddy was able to preboard and was the only passenger on the plane for the first fifteen minutes. He even got to visit the cockpit, something he absolutely loved, and received special cards about the airplane that made him so happy. He did amazing on the flight. TSA Cares in Norfolk also made the experience smooth and supportive for the family.

Each park day brought new magic. At Animal Kingdom, the family was first on the safari, getting an incredible view of the animals. Hollywood Studios was a dream come true for Teddy, whose absolute favorite is Toy Story. Meeting Buzz, then Woody and Jessie was a highlight. When Teddy looks back at the pictures, he still smiles. Sitting in the front row at the Beauty and the Beast show was another unforgettable moment. His family loved watching him bounce up and down to the music, fully engaged, even calling out “oh no” as he followed along with the story.

Their day at SeaWorld added even more excitement. Teddy absolutely loves dolphins, and the whole family, including Grandma felt the orca show was phenomenal. Teddy also loved all of the characters in the Sesame Street parade, and even danced along from a shady spot.

At Magic Kingdom, the grand finale of the trip, Teddy met Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. The princesses were incredibly sweet, taking fun photos and showing a level of patience that left a lasting impression. Meeting Mickey Mouse was just as magical. Teddy did not want to leave his side. As his mom shared, “Teddy had joy in everything we did.”

Give Kids the World Village provided comfort, fun, and space to simply be a family. Teddy especially loved the spaghetti and meatballs, eating it every day. From start to finish, the experience was seamless.

Reflecting on what the Dream meant to their family, Teddy’s mom shared, “For us, Teddy is now 4-5 months post chemo. It was the finality. We went through something hard and traumatic. He’s earned this, above and beyond. Seeing his joy and truly enjoy. Seeing him to be able to be a kid. Turning a new page and new chapter.” She added simply that they are “Very grateful.”

Teddy’s birthday Dream was more than a trip. It was a celebration of healing, happiness, and a little boy enjoying being six years old.
