Treatment with a Side of Technology
Toby’s Dream Foundation was thrilled to meet Chris, our 17-year-old Dreamer from Newport News. Chris is young man of extraordinary strength and courage, not to mention an extraordinary knack for all things electronic!
Chris represents a different type of Dream for our charitable organization. For the first time, our volunteer Dream Makers in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Isle of Wight, Eastern Shore, Eastern Virginia, and Eastern NC, were asked to put on their thinking caps and their running shoes. Chris was about to hit the road for treatment in Baltimore and we wanted to make sure he had everything he needed to make his few weeks in Maryland as enjoyable as possible.
Dream Makers met with Chris and his family beside Chris’s hospital bed to find that his journey just couldn’t begin without a Play Station 3 and hip new iPad. So, without a minute to spare, our charitable organization was out of the gate. Little did Chris know that we’d be seeing him again later that same day with a basket of goodies in hand.
First, it was time to track down a Play Station 3, which we were able to do with relative ease. The brand new Apple iPad proved a little more difficult. We called retailers all over Hampton Roads to locate the elusive device. The only shame about the hunt is that our booty wound up being the top-of-the-line model. Oh, shucks! But nothing is too good for our Dreamers.
When we arrived at his home in Newport News, Chris was stunned! We assured him that we harnessed the power of a Dreamer’s magic to make his Dream come true. Our charitable foundation brought Chris the latest and greatest in electronics, including some games and extra controllers so he could enjoy each system with friends and family.
His response was filled with pure elation, “Wow! I can’t believe all of this!”
Toby’s Dream Foundation wishes Chris and his family the best of luck in treatment. It was and is our goal to bring a few moments of hope into the life of this courageous Dreamer as he takes the next step in the journey of his illness.
